Maple Ridge’s idyllic location nestled up against of the Golden Ears mountain group provides the perfect comforting backdrop for easy living, but it also means a distant 40km commute to Vancouver proper. While this distance can make for a lengthy commute in a car by yourself, B.C. has had the foresight to develop a comprehensive public transit system serving surrounding communities like Maple Ridge.
To help out families and residents who live in the area, or want to move here but don’t want to spend every trip in the car, here are some of the more commonly used Maple Ridge public transit options:
West Coast Express
With three station stops in Maple Meadows, the West Coast Express commuter rail is an amazing, comfortable and convenient option for those who work in or near Vancouver.
Maple Meadows and Port Haney are the most common places to board the West Coast Express. Service westward to Vancouver is limited mostly to peak commuter hours during weekdays. All cars are wheelchair accessible and feature bicycle tie-downs, computer plug-in stations, work stations and washrooms.
Translink Bus System
The Translink bus system is the region’s most comprehensive connection between Maple Ridge, Vancouver and other surrounding areas.
The 701 Route Haney/ Maple Ridge East / Coquitlam Station offers convenient service from Maple Meadows Station, Haney Place and other nearby stops to Coquitlam Station. From Coquitlam, service to Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, New Westminster and other areas is possible.
Maple Ridge does not currently have night service, but Coquitlam does, allowing late-night workers or revelers a way to get within 15km of Maple Ridge until at least 3 a.m.
With a host of other service options and popular routes, we strongly suggest you consult the TransLink website for up-to-the-minute timetables and route changes.
HandyDART has a fleet of 10 vehicles designed to provide more convenient access to public transit. This door-to-door service specializes in offering transit options for those with mobility problems or special needs.
Visit the HandyDART website for more information.
Taxi Cab and Limo Services
While not part of the public transit system, services like Alouette taxi provide direct routes to and from wherever you need to go. You can also take advantage of up-and-coming ridesharing services like Lyft or Uber.
Pitt Meadows Regional Airport
Albeit small, the Pitt Meadows Regional Airport is the only airport in Fraser Valley north of the river. It can provide quick access to direct seaplane flights from Pitt Meadows to Victoria, as well as chartered flights anywhere in the region.
