Even though Maple Ridge lies a bit away from the more cosmopolitan areas of Vancouver, we are hardly lacking in great cuisine and culture! In fact, I find that I hardly ever have to travel to get the type of food or dining experience I am craving because Maple Ridge has such an abundance of amazing restaurants, diners, cafés and eateries.
While I could never hope to reveal them all, here are just a few of my favourites:
Billy Miner Alehouse & Cafe
No list of great Maple Ridge restaurants would be complete without mentioning this regular neighbourhood haunt. They serve up scrumptious burgers, fries, salads, pizza, smoked pork and other pub fare. Their all-day sweet or savoury waffles are also a popular choice. Wash down your meal with an incredible selection of craft beers hailing from all around the world as well as ones made right here in BC!
Next door to the pub is a separate cafe area that offers baked goods, coffee, salads and sandwiches. The free Wi-Fi and cozy atmosphere makes it a favoured spot to get work done or just hang out.
Big Feast Bistro
Don’t let the unassuming strip mall edifice or pedestrian name fool you—Big Feast Bistro understands how quality ingredients and a little culinary creativity can result in memorable meals. They also offer huge, brunch-style portions true to their name.
Seafood lovers must try the Crab Benny. Bison Burgers, pancakes and mounds of browned potatoes are all other choices you cannot go wrong with. Lots of gluten free options, too!
While we don’t have the glistening, boutique-style sushi restaurants Vancouverites brag about, Maple Ridge still has a venerable spot to get classic or contemporary Japanese-style raw fish in Shinobi Sushi. The friendly staff and comfortable atmosphere always make for a great experience. We can’t even recommend any particular item because it’s all so good, but we do suggest sampling the creative chef’s specials.
Kingfishers Waterfront Bar & Grill
While Kingfishers offers some solid takes on fresh seafood and pub fare, the real showstopper is the place’s amazing waterfront location and unparalleled ambience. They also host live music every weekend. Guests of all ages are welcomed on the restaurant side and there is an adult only section as well. For those looking to try something new, they serve handcrafted food and drink with Chef features that change weekly!
G M Restaurant
An outstanding reputation, a gigantic menu and a solid approach to Indian and Middle Eastern classics all cement G M Restaurant as a local favourite. The owners and staff always aim to please, and the sheer variety on the menu will have you coming back time and time again to try new things. Also: don’t forget to take some cheesecake home! You’ll want it later, trust me.
Bruce’s Country Market
Utterly unique, Bruce’s Country Market satisfies a host of shopping needs including crafts, gifts, flowers, pantry items and their legendary take-home meals. They are famous for their prime rib dinners, but their chowders deserve equal recognition.
Pho Xuan Chi Vietnamese Restaurant
Delicious pho, fresh-made spring rolls, and a variety of meats and veggies make this place my preferred spot for a quick lunch or early dinner.
