While my job as a realtor keeps me fairly busy, I always try to make time to enjoy what Maple Ridge does best: gathering together as a community to have fun. We are fortunate to have an active social calendar full of different activities every single week, and we also have plenty of public facilities and parks to host these incredible events.
To give you an idea of the community events and festivals worth marking your datebook for, here are some of the most popular happenings on the Maple Ridge community events calendar:
Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Country Fest
Every July, the Albion Fairgrounds transforms into a classic country fair for the annual Country Fest celebration. This event draws thousands of people from Maple Ridge, Surrey, Burnaby, Vancouver and parts beyond to enjoy its carefree, down-home style fun and entertainment. As you can see here the grounds are clean, modern, and attractive.
Rides, carnival games, kids’ arts & crafts, vendors, food and more sit alongside traditional agricultural contests, shows and celebrations to offer a full, rich, balanced and educational weekend. Best of all, the event is absolutely free to enter, and parking is only $2!
Caribbean Street Festival
This event has rapidly grown in popularity over the past few decades, so much so that they outgrew their venue at the Memorial Peace Park downtown and had to move to the Albion Fairgrounds.
Attendees can enjoy the tropical flavours of reggae, calypso, salsa, soca and more as talented artists play authentic instruments and let everyone in the audience feel the rhythm. The festival features two main stages and countless other small stages, with over 100 entertainers total. Additionally, Caribbean foods are served and traditional goods are sold at a recreation of a Caribbean open air market.
Enjoy the entrancing rhythms of the steel drum as you munch on jerk chicken and peruse handmade goods! Kids also have access to special activities, rides and kid-friendly entertainments.
Maple Ridge Christmas in the Park & Santa Claus Parade
In early December, families and adults can visit Memorial Peace Park for a day of crafts, tree decorating and treats. Kids can enjoy writing letters to Santa among other activities.
Afterwards, Santa himself appears to help lead a parade through downtown Maple Ridge. Local businesses create their own floats or open their shop doors along the route to exhibit their creativity and make the event truly memorable.
