Maple Ridge is a town that really knows how to strike a balance between comfort and excitement with its nightlife. You won’t find velvet ropes holding back a queue lined around the block, but you also won’t lack for choices when deciding upon a place to get a drink or hear some live music.
On occasions that I go out, here are some of my favorite places to frequent when enjoying the Maple Ridge nightlife:
ACT Arts Centre
With live theatre, musical performances, limited-run films and more, the ACT Arts Centre is the place to be when you want a night of culture, refined entertainment or perhaps even a few laughs. Tickets to events are a steal, especially during the week, and they even occasionally have night-time showings in the art gallery for openings and other special events. You don’t even have to become a temporary teetotaler, as there’s a bar in the lobby.
The ACT Arts Centre is host for hundreds of concerts, art shows and other performances year round. They also offer art classes and other community learning opportunities for people of all ages.
Aside from these more or less unpredictable occurrences, the Centre hosts ongoing arts series and events throughout the year.
Classical Coffee Concerts — Enjoy coffee or tea and treats as local talent Sarah Hagen performs a diverse array of piano pieces and delivers amusing lectures on music culture, history and theory.
Golden Ears Movie Series — GEMS is supported by Film Circuit, a division of the Toronto International Film Festival. The series hosts documentaries, art films and limited-release films that highlight bold, unique voices within the filmmaking community.
ALT Fest — ALT Fest presents fresh takes on studio theatre, ranging from black box performance pieces to creative interpretations of Shakespeare.
Kingfishers Waterfront Bar & Grill
If you are looking for the most majestic place in town to get a drink and hear live music, this is it. Looking across the Fraser River, this dramatic venue puts most other restaurant views to shame, especially when sitting on the large patio. I haven’t tried it myself, but I also hear Kingfishers’ Bellini Bomb is worth coming back for.
Maple Meadows Brewing Company, Ridge Brewing Company
These two local nanobreweries craft their own selection of delicious beer and serve it out of their tap room every week. While they close early (around 8:30 p.m.), they can make for an excellent start to your night.
Haney Public House
The Haney Public House is a popular, long-lived Maple Ridge establishment that has become a favourite watering hole about town. Its outward, old-timey appearance hides a thoroughly modern interior that is quite large and often plays host to live bands.
Their appies are delicious and well-priced, and most of their drinks are even cheaper. This is a favourite spot of mine to go on the weekend, and all my friends are more than willing to come here if for nothing else than their bargain-priced but incredibly tasty snow crab legs.
The Keg Steakhouse & Bar
Great prime rib and addictive mash potatoes cement this place as a popular weekend joint. Friendly, attentive staff and a fairly large drink selection also give it extra points. About the only bad thing I could say about it is that the wait can be a bit long on weekends, but the staff’s accommodating attitude more than makes up for it.
Billy Miner Pub
Billy Miner boasts what might be the best selection of craft beers in Maple Ridge. 24 beers are offered on tap, most of which rotate out on a regular basis, so there’s always something new to try! They host live music, too.
If you come on an empty stomach, their house-made chili and desserts are more than enough to keep your tummy satisfied.
REVS Maple Ridge Bowling Centre and Lounge
REVS is the only place in town that offers bowling, but to be perfectly honest the atmosphere and ambience are not for everyone. That said, the lanes are well-maintained and they are open late every night except Sundays — as late as 1:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday!
Walk or Get a Cab Home When You Own One of the Homes for Sale in Maple Ridge
People come from Langley, Coquitlam and other areas to get a taste of Maple Ridge’s more popular restaurants and late-night venues. Why face the long ride home when you could look at our local Maple Ridge home listings and purchase a beautiful abode close enough to walk or ride a cab?
